beautiful bathroom colors

After reading all the design magazines and watching plenty of HGTV shows, you feel confident in your knowledge of what’s trending right now in home design. In the bathroom, you want to create a stunningly beautiful space for you and your guests. But what about when you’re ready to sell your home in 10 years? Will your bathroom continue to wow, or will it need to be revamped with new paint colors in just a little while when the trends change? Here’s some advice for picking bathroom colors that stand the test of time.

“Trendy” Paint Colors

Like certain fashion trends, some paint colors come in and out of style. Unfortunately, when it comes to selling your home, sometimes going along with the current trend can be a disadvantage later on. For example, avocado green may have been a popular choice for bathrooms in the 70s, but now that color only makes your bathroom appear old and dirty. You may want to go with a color that has more endurance.

Bathroom Classics

There are certain colors that have continued to look amazing in bathrooms, regardless of the decade. These colors not only look clean but also create a more comfortable environment for when nature calls.

Light Blue or Aquamarine

Blue, especially lighter shades of blue, is a favorite color for the bathroom—and for good reason! A clean, pale robin’s egg blue and other similar blues evoke a calm feeling. In bathrooms with windows, a light blue naturally allows the room to be flooded with light for you and any plants you may have in the room. In addition, a light aquamarine can remind you of the soothing waves of the ocean, which is why you still see so many bathrooms with a nautical theme.

Deeper Blue

Looking for a more sophisticated color option for the bathroom? A rich, dark blue offers a similar relaxing vibe while adding a beautiful backdrop for metallic fixtures and house plants. If your bathroom is small, however, this shade can make the space feel even tighter. In that case, you could choose an accent wall with the darker blue and a lighter shade of blue for the rest of the walls.

Gray and Off-White

You can’t go wrong if you select one of these neutral colors for the bathroom. Light gray and off-white are close enough to sanitary pure white that they make the space look clean while giving it a subtly more interesting look. Just be sure to stay away from off-white options that have yellowish tones because these tend to look dirty in the bathroom.

Ultimately, if you so choose, you could change your bathroom every couple of years to stay on target with each new trend. However, sticking to a classic bathroom paint color can make this room look updated, clean, and relaxing for many years to come.
